With this final post of the year, I salute those of you who moved forward with a virtual gala this year.
Were you brave?
Were you a realist?
Were you desperate?
Who knows and who cares – you did it!
Those fresh tracks in the snow are your footprints, and you can update your LinkedIn profile with “virtual gala” experience.
The year 2020 pushed us to adapt. “The green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak which breaks in a storm,” said Confucius.
You might be more battle worn than expected, yet also feel a bit saucier and more confident because you made the most of obstacles.
If you conducted a virtual gala in 2020, you have advanced in your knowledge and chutzpah.
Should you decide to conduct another virtual gala in 2021 or beyond, you’ve got your sea legs. The second go-around won’t be as overwhelming.
Though 2020 was a wild roller coaster, do not forget that some folks like roller coasters. (I do.) The adaptation to learn new skills and technology this year was a bit like the big climb that begins every roller coaster ride.
It was a year for pragmatics who don’t cry over spilled milk and just get on with it.
And it was a year for innovators and disrupters.
As we move forward in 2021, we will see a mix of virtual galas and hybrid events. May you find the right approach for your nonprofit.
