Description
Trends, tips, and insider information about top-selling items and how to get them.
Do you know what a Procurement Party is?
Procurement parties are a series of brainstorming activities held with an acquisitions team, with the goal of generating new items to can be sold in a fundraising auction.
They are often held when a committee is new to auctions, bored with their existing items, or just overwhelmed on how to secure fresh donations.
Back in the day, the committee would assemble in a room. I’d take them through brainstorming exercises designed to generate package ideas within their community.
By the end of the procurement party, we would have developed new concepts, listed possible donors, refreshed old items with a modern twist, and unearthed new resources.
That’s the goal for this course, but taking it virtual, and expanding it to a national level.
This course is for you if:
- You dread procurement and crave inspiration
- You are creatively exhausted and want straightforward ideas
- You run an elite gala and need trendy items to stay memorable
Sample of what you’ll learn:
- Trends in dining, locations, activities, etc.
- Specific cities to target for vacations and why
- Creative ways auction committees are getting consigned items purchased
- The types of activities I ask about in a community, to build an item around and generate buzz
- Specific advice for school auction committees
How the course will be delivered:
This will be run as a “flipped classroom.” It’s a concept I learned from an advanced calculus teacher during a paddle raise at a gala.
A flipped classroom is structured around the idea that lecture isn’t the best use of class time. Students learn more when they are participating instead of just listening.
She flipped her classroom so that “homework” became watching the lecture at home, and “classtime” was working on math problems in the room. Test scores dramatically improved!
We’re going to use this approach for our Procurement Party.
You’ll watch a recorded training, and then we’ll gather on Zoom a few days later for discussion and questions.
- Monday, January 27, 2025: You’ll be emailed a link to a ~90-minute recorded Zoom class accompanied by a special version of the Annual Auction Item Guide.
- Thursday, January 30, 2025: Via Zoom, we will meet 3 PM – 4:30 PM Eastern for discussion, questions, and advice. (This will be recorded, if you are unable to attend.)
Let’s get going!
