You don’t need a million ideas to make a million dollars. You need one good idea to make a million dollars.
I love that phrase.
I love it because it reminds me that I don’t need to do EVERYTHING I hear in order to have a successful business. One good idea … implemented well … can pay dividends.
Where do I get good ideas?
I’ve heard more than once that some people get great ideas in the shower. Personally, I’ve never had a great idea in the shower.
I get good ideas when I take classes. When I hear an idea that really grabs me, I write it in the upper right-hand corner of my notepaper so I can find it easily when I get home.
Because of the inspiration I get from classes, I’m a big believer in education. I’m an eternal student! Over the years, I’ve taken classes on all sorts of subjects.
- All about perfume
- How to write and publish your own book
- How to read tarot cards
- How to be charming
- Spying 101
- How to operate a vacation rental home
- French
- and many, many others.
A few years ago at a National Auctioneers Association convention in Pittsburgh, PA, I met a fellow auctioneer — a former medical doctor — who was like me. He told me that once a year, he would attend a convention in another industry to get outside his “comfort zone.” It would spur new ideas. “I get new angles,” he said
Can you imagine? There he was, a former-doctor-turned-auctioneer, showing up at the annual convention for plumbers … or real estate developers … or manufacturers of janitorial supplies.
Sometimes I’ll attend a class and get dozens of ideas. I rarely can implement them all, but I get started on one or two.
Other times I’ll sit through a week of workshops … bored to tears … and then hear one BRILLIANT idea.
That’s when I think about my opening phrase — that it only takes one good idea to make a million dollars.
This Thursday, I’m going to be kicking off a brand NEW 3-part tele-series on auction procurement. It’s called Big Ticket Procurement Secrets.
If getting auction donations seems like a chore for you and your committee, this is a perfect class for you and your team. In one month, I’ll have you energized and ready to conquer your next auction with strategies that have worked for my other clients.
You’ll be learning what to get … how to get items … how to write great auction donation letters (and thank yous) strategies for selling them … and a ton more.
And if you’re an old pro in the auction acquisitions space, I’m confident you’ll pick up at least one brilliant idea that will have you jotting down a note to yourself for follow-up. It will become your million-dollar idea.
I invite you to learn more about this ground-breaking course by reading through the course outline and content here. If it resonates with you, I’ll see you on Thursday.
